Coronavirus Cross Border Update:
UPDATE - On October 21st 2021 temporary border restrictions will be lifted for non essential travel including vacations.
UPDATE - On August 9th 2021 US residents who are fully vaccinated against COVID-19 may enter Canada by road. Visitors will need to provide proof of vaccination and a negative COVID test. They will exempt from the 2 week quarantine and two post arrival tests.
On March 21, 2020, the U.S., Mexico, and Canada temporarily restricted non-essential travel across the US-Canada land borders. These restrictions will remain in effect until 11:59 p.m. EDT on August 20, 2020. We are maintaining cross-border activities with Canada and Mexico that support health security, trade, commerce, supply security, and other essential activities while taking critical steps to protect our citizens and to curb spread of the virus.
Update 12/11/20 - The US-Canada land border is closed until 1/21/21.
Cross Border Car Rental Tips:
Most rental agencies will allow you to drive into Canada - check terms and conditions for restrictions.
Existing insurance should cover you in Canada - check with your insurance provider to make sure. You may need a free non resident insurance card from the rental agency.
Notify the rental agency at pick up if driving into Canada.
